We hope that our support and experience have been helpful in making this one of the most precious moments in your life. It goes without saying that we will be at your side at any time during this most sensitive phase of the birth-giving process. The neonatology department
The friendly atmosphere in our neonatology department is perfectly complemented with state-of-the-art medical equipment enabling us to provide optimum care to pre-term babies and infants with adaptation problems after delivery. All modern instruments, such as ultrasound, which we also use for the brain, kidney and hip, and an in-house laboratory, are up to the latest standards.

The Goldenes Kreuz closely works together with renowned pediatricians and pediatric orthopedists and surgeons, all of whom are available to our clients. In addition, mothers and their babies have immediate around-the-clock access to one of our experienced child nurses, who will be happy to take good care of the baby while mothers take time to rest, as often and as long as they may wish.

Rooming-in
Individual rooming-in (also for fathers!) is a routine procedure at the Goldenes Kreuz and thanks to our well-known medical competence we can even arrange for pre-term babies to stay with their mothers at the earliest possible moment. 

Breastfeeding support
If you wish to breastfeed you newborn child, you can rely on our two certified lactation consultants (IBCLC), who will assist you in overcoming any difficulties that may initially occur. They also organize breastfeeding groups and private sessions and will still be there for you when you and your baby are already back home! Baby massage
Grant your child a relaxed start into life! A baby massage is ideal for deepening and strengthening a parent-child relationship. These soft touches let your baby feel your love and affection, give him or her a sensation of warmth and protection and contribute significantly to his or her wellbeing. It is simply a wonderful experience not to be missed.
Appointments: every Thursday; each training course consists of two sessions (approx. 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.). Contact the newborn room staff for the exact dates. The training sessions take place at the gym of the Goldenes Kreuz. Upon request, we also offer individual courses, e.g. in the evening or at your home. The cost of this training course is 60 Euro per session for singles and 90 Euro for couples, including massage lotion and refreshments. Please bring along a soft baby blanket or cloth napkin to the training!

Baby coaching
As part of our baby coaching program, we also offer parents-to be a comprehensive personal counseling package on baby care and breastfeeding, with an introduction to baby care and prenatal breastfeeding information provided by one of our certified child nurses, Angelika Korab.
For appointments please contact our unit for new borns. The training sessions take place at the breastfeeding room on the 3rd floor.

Hearing screening for new-borns

Why?
Normal hearing is crucial for the speech development of your child. Until recently half of all congenital hearing problems, which lead to impaired speech development, were discovered too late. One of the reasons is that the hearing level is good enough to react to clapping, shouting or even normal speech. But for a normal speech development perception of noise levels far below the above mentioned is necessary. Modern technology now allows the detection of such hearing problems.
How?
The inner ear produces "tones" (emissions), which are registered by the use of a walkman like head set and are analyzed by a computer. Since these emissions are very quiet, the best time to do the test is when your baby sleeps or is being fed. The test does not hurt at all and usually takes only seconds. In case of an uninterpretable result (mostly because of amniotic fluid in the middle ear cavity or wax in the ear canal), the test needs to be repeated. Only after failure of a second test further examinations in a specialized center are necessary.
When / Where?
Testing days are usually Tuesday and Friday, and the screening takes place in your rooms or in the new-born ward. Should you miss the test for any reasons please make an appoinment in the office from Dr. R. Kürsten in Vienna, 1st district, Opernring 4/2/6, phone: ++43 (1) 512 60 11.

Nutrition counseling during lactation
Our dietician will give you all the necessary information and advice on the best and healthiest nutrition during the breastfeeding period. For an individual appointment call our nurse Eva at ++43 (1) 40 111 - 3000.
