Reiki stems from the Japanese word for “universal life energy”. This particularly subtle type of energy affects all areas of our lives. The system of Reiki was developed by Dr. Mikao Usui (1868 – 1926), who learned and practiced these ancient principles during his studies of Sanskrit.
Reiki in itself is a form of unmedicated relaxation, but does not substitute prescribed medication. Reiki practitioners mostly use their hands to transfer energy to all mental, physical and emotional parts of the patient’s body. This type of treatment is used for relaxation and stabilization and helps to release blocks and ease stress. In addition, it lets your body’s healing powers flow, has detoxifying effects and can significantly support medical healing therapies.
Reiki also has a positive effect on pregnancy and the development of the unborn child.
During a Reiki treatment, patients are fully clothed. Starting at the head, the “Reiki giver” gently places his hands on your most important organs and energy channels. In a Reiki treatment, the giver is used as a channel to give the healing universal life energy into the body of the receiver. No personal energy is drawn from the giver.
